Getting to Avignon by Road
By Car
It is possible to drive or take a bus from most European cities to Avignon. Avignon is connected by motorways to
Lyon, Paris, Germany, Italy and Spain as well as several major cities in France. The motorways are excellent and
clearly signposted but it could be a long drive depending on the point of departure. Paris is approximately 700kms
from Avignon.
From Paris, Marseilles, Lyon, Nice and Italy and destinations north of the city you can take
the A9 motorway to within 7kms of the city centre and then follow the signs. From Nîmes, Perpignan, Barcelona
and destinations south of the city, you can take the A9 motorway to within 6kms of the city centre and then
follow the signs. From Marseilles, you can expect to make the journey in about 1 hour; from Paris,
in approximately 6 hours and from Barcelona, approximately 3 hours, 45 minutes.
